Dr Maitland Hyslop has had a successful career in four key fields: the private sector, the public sector, academia, and the armed services. Strategically he is a proven, private sector, public sector, multi-cultural/international, leader, chairman, CEO. Operationally, and academically, he is a business developer and turnaround professional, an innovator/change manager. He has a personal international reputation in cyber security, organizational resilience, and marketing.
In the private sector his key achievements have been: as UK/Indian Raitex delivering innovative RFID solutions for Kuwait Oil Company through Kuwaiti Middle East Offshore Services; building Durham Consulting Group into a successful UK and Middle East marketing and technical consultancy; delivering operational and operational drone procedures for the USA’s African Eye Inc.; turning Dubai/Houston – based OES Group into the most profitable offshore engineering service company; delivering HIMMs 7 for a Saudi Hospital and creating an Integrated Care Organization in Dubai; restructuring (sic) UK brewery engineer Microdat with Chinese partners; delivering profit and acquiring a new business for UK engineers Goodwin plc and Internet Central; building with others the successful UK data storage and broadband company Onyx (now Pulsant); rebuilding a challenged UK NetWare distributor GNC; delivering profit and innovative oil and gas inventory management for UK Whessoe plc; identifying and preventing multi-national threats for a major UK insurance company and Swiss Nestlé S.A.; delivering 7 of the top 12 most profitable markets for Swedish Tetra Pak (a packaging multinational); building a successful UK realtor and developing the first realtor computer matching service.
In the public sector Maitland chaired the UK’s leading Local Enterprise Partnership; was a senior leadership cadre member of the UK NHS delivering social care innovation, turning round hospitals and streamlining ambulance services; solved a £1 billion governance problem for the Scottish Government; led the acclaimed EU eJustice project; led the most successful broadband deployment in the UK; delivered with team 30 000 jobs to the UK from the USA; was a Board Member of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and led for Economic Strategy and Health for Staffordshire County Council, co-opted as Chair of the Local Enterprise Partnership. Served on the West Yorkshire Police Computer Crime Committee and advised the City of London Police on the same.
In academia he is a Visiting Lecturer at Buckingham University Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies, and member/affiliate of Northumbria University’s Disaster and Development Network focused on the Sendai Framework/UNDRR; he was a Senior Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University's Centre for Intelligence, Security and Resilience; has been a visiting professor at two Middle East Universities (Ahlia and Bahrain); Director of Durham University’s USA Foundation; part of the development committees at Durham, Northumbria, Keele (also Council), Staffordshire and Highland and Islands (also Council) Universities ; Research Fellow in Telecommunications Security at Northumbria University; Lecturer/Demonstrator and Tutor at Durham University. He is an approved Middle East trainer and has coached/mentored/trained many top Middle Eastern companies and individuals. He was a Charter Member of the Institute of Information Infrastructure Protection at Dartmouth University, USA (Homeland Security), and a member of European Network Information Security Agency Working Groups. He founded the European Telecommunications Resilience and Recovery Association (now within ETSI). His key books are on Leadership, Cybersecurity, the Middle East, War, Marketing and Critical Information Infrastructures; all described as prescient and readable. He has a PhD (Northumbria) in Organizational Resilience, an MA in Middle Eastern and African Studies (Durham), an MSc in International Marketing (Huddersfield University Business School/CIM), a BA (2.1) (Durham) in Geography/Economics, a Diploma in Electronic Marketing (Manchester Metropolitan/CIM), a course on Growth Through Technology from IMD, a course from MIT Sloan/Harvard/Tufts on Business Management, and most recently an ‘Outstanding’ final project report from Harvard on Cybersecurity in the Information Age. He holds an Aviation Security Professional Manager qualification from the UN;s ICAO (Concordia University).
He was a top-rated British Army Officer with combat and anti-terrorist experience.

In the civilian environment he has been kidnapped four times in the process of resolving governance and compliance issues: South America, Nigeria, Russia, and the Middle East.

Recently, he has launched the Mixed Reality Leadership Centre focussed on developing C-Suite competence in managing the physical and virtual worlds successfully as one with John Greaves, Amanda Goodger and Norma Foster (with thanks also to University of Buckingham); he is working with Contra Group in Dubai, UAE on a marketing initiative and with others on a consortium to provide services to critical infrasructure providers.
